Alumni are invited to join Oxford Physics’ Professor Myles Allen, known as 'the physicist behind net zero', for a talk on climate solutions: how to stop global warming in an increasingly challenging world. Professor Allen will speak about the technologies being developed at Oxford and elsewhere that make this possible – and some more radical ideas for policies to make it happen.
The evening will start with a drinks reception, followed by a talk from Professor Allen and the opportunity to ask questions. After the discussion, guests are invited to network over refreshments.
Tickets: £25. Alumni are welcome to bring guests, but please note that guest tickets are limited. The dress code is smart casual.
Professor Allen is Head of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics in the Department of Physics and Professor of Geosystem Science in the School of Geography and the Environment at the University of Oxford.
He served on the UK Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, most recently as a Coordinating Lead Author on the IPCC Special Report on 1.5°C. Professor Allen was awarded the Appleton Medal and Prize from the UK’s Institute of Physics 'for his important contributions to the detection and attribution of human influence on climate and quantifying uncertainty in climate predictions'; featured on the BBC’s The Life Scientific as 'the physicist behind net zero'; and was appointed CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) 'for services to climate change attribution, prediction and net zero'. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society.
