REVOLUTIONISING HEAD INJURY CARE AND RESEARCH - A ST HUGH'S COLLEGE LEGACY

The University of Oxford’s leadership in modern neuroscience originates in World War II when St Hugh’s College was requisitioned to house injured service men and women suffering with traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

Professor Gabriele De Luca, a Fellow of St Hugh’s, presented that history within the context of a new frontier where Oxford Neuroscience research is conducted. Oxford is developing neuro-rehab and neuro-restorative clinical care for
those diagnosed with, or at risk for developing, dementia, Parkinson’s, TBI/CTE, Alzheimer’s, and other chronic brain diseases. The event was introduced by Lady Elish Angiolini, Principal of St Hugh’s College.

About the Speaker

Speaker: Gabriele De Luca

Professor of Clinical Neurology and Experimental Neuropathology in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford. He is also the Director of Clinical Neurosciences Undergraduate Education in the Nuffield
Department of Medicine. His research work has resulted in numerous publications and awards, including the prestigious Cavanagh Prize awarded by the British Neuropathological Society. Professor De Luca is a member of the medical
advisory board of the Concussion Legacy Project brain bank in the UK.
